15 DIY MAKE UP HACKS

1. Contouring with a “3″

Trying to achieve the super trendy contouring method, but don’t have the time to apply all the highlighting, concealer and bronzer? Draw 3’s, that mirror one another on opposite sides of your face, using your concealer. The shape of the 3 will lift your face in the right areas giving it the appearance of highlighting; a basic version of serious contouring.

2. Line & Curl Your Lids and Lashes at the Same Time

Do you have trouble applying liner to your eyelids? Maybe your eyeliner smudges after you curl your lashes? Well there’s an easy way to kill two birds with one stone. Line your lash curler with the eyeliner of your choice, the liner will apply as you press your lashes with your curler. Just follow the method shown above.

3. Fuller Lips in 1 Minute

Everyone wants Kylie Jenner’s lips. The debate is still out on whether or not she went under the needle to enhance hers, but regardless, new methods on how to achieve her luscious lip look are popping up all over the place. Here’s one simple way to fake it: Apply highlighter in the center of your lips and layer your lip gloss or stain of choice over it, blending and smudging the layers to get the perfect look.

4. Make Your Lipstick Last All Day

Don’t you hate it when your perfectly applied red lipstick starts to fade away, unbeknownst to you? It would be so much better if you could enjoy the night without having to check on the color every so often. Well now you can. Translucent powder will keep them prime all night, place a tissue against your lips and brush the powder onto them. The tissue will act as the perfect filter.

5. Have Thick-Looking Hair in a Snap

Don’t like the look of wide parts in your scalp? Or feel like your hair is starting to thin, here’s the perfect trick to help your hair appear thicker. Pick out an eyeshadow that favors the color of your roots. Using a brush, apply the eyeshadow to your scalp making your parts look more narrow, thus darkening and providing the appearance of shadows.

6. The Right Way to Apply Concealer

I’m sure many people have fallen victim to applying concealer the wrong way, including myself. It’s better to apply concealer in the form of a triangle, with the tip of it hitting your the top of your cheek, rather than straight across underneath your eye. This shape is better because it highlights that area of your face, similar to what holding a flashlight under your chin looks like. The highlights from the concealer will illuminate your face in a favorable way.

7. Brushes Are Better Than Fingers

If you’re lazy with your makeup application, like I am, then you find it easier to apply foundation with my fingers; I always spread it upon my face like I would a lotion or cream. So it’s no wonder that I’ve turned out looking like a greaseball. Applying foundation with your fingers doesn’t allow for an even spread. When using a brush or makeup sponge you prevent adding more grease to your face from your fingers.  This is surely one tip I won’t forget.

8. Want Fuller Lashes?

If full lashes aren’t floating around in your gene pool, then you might be a bit envious of those fluttering about with theirs. A quick way to beef up your lashes without falsies is by applying baby powder. After putting your mascara on, run some baby powder across your eyelashes using a cotton swab. Another coating of mascara atop will adhere to the powder giving your lashes a more natural full look without glue and add ons.

9. Trick to Neatly Apply Mascara

Always have to play clean up on your eyelids after putting on mascara? Here’s an obvious trick that will have you thinking “duh, why didn’t I think of that?” When applying your mascara, place a card of some sort atop your eyelid, between your lashes and skin. Instead of the wand or wet lashes leaving black marks on your skin, the card will catch it all. Easy peezy.

10. A Use for a Spoon, Other Than Eating

Who would have thought a spoon had other uses besides picking up soup? It aids in a surefire way of achieving the perfect cat eye. Using the different edges and curves of a spoon you can create the perfect lines and angles in a cat eye. Just follow the photos above. You’ll have all your friends begging you to teach them your steady hand ways.

11. Easy Way to Remove Makeup from Your Collar

I’ve found another use for shaving cream! It easily removes makeup from your shirt collar, or perhaps other articles of clothing that you may have smudged your foundation on. Just place some on a damp cloth and use it to wipe away your makeup. The best part is that it doesn’t damage your clothes, thus preventing you from having to change outfits.

12. Unclump Your Mascara

Who would have thought that once your mascara clumped up, that you don’t have to be done with it? Eyedrops are the perfect solution, literally and figuratively. Add a few drops to your mascara bottle and rub the wand around inside. The drops are the perfect medium to soften up the mascara thus making it useable further more.

13. Seal the Curl to Lashes

Don’t like false eyelashes? Too much work right? Well, for some of us lazy makeup wearers. The perk of falsies is that the curl in them lasts all day. To achieve this effect with your own natural lashes is easy. Heat your lash curler with a blow dryer for a few seconds. The method works the same as a curling iron does with your hair.

14. The Right Way to Match Your Foundation

Trying to find the right shade of foundation can be a bit annoying. Most people use the top of their hand or face to get the right match. When instead you should be picking a shade that matches your neck. If you think about it, it makes sense; your face will be covered in makeup leaving your neck uncovered right underneath it. Thus your made-up face should look like a smooth transition of skin onto your neck.

15. Save Your Wands

Such a brilliant idea! Normally when we’re done with our mascara we toss the wand out with the bottle. Next time save the wand. By the end of the year you could have a serious collection of wands in varying sizes and styles, that’s if you try different brands or types of mascara. You’ll have a range of wands to choose from when you want to switch up your look: you could go from calm lashes to full on dramatic, easily.
